Last minute Mother’s Day gift

Has Mother’s Day crept up on you and you’re in a bind to find something special in a hurry?

Lucky you! I’ll show you how to make Mother’s Day wall art PLUS a co-ordinating card.

I’ll also give you the link to the resources you need to make both.

To make the wall art, you’ll need a design layout program such as Adobe Indesign, or any of the free layout programs, such as Scribus. You can even create the wall art and the card in MS Word, or Adobe Photoshop.

All the clip art you need for this tutorial is contained in this DROPBOX LINK.

I’ve included 2 floral wreaths so that you can choose the colors and the design you think you mom will like best.

Open a new document in the design package of your choice. Make the document 12 X 12 inches square. Copy and paste the wreath into the document; resize the image to fit. Add your favorite Mother’s Day quote. If you’d like to use the quote that I’ve used in the example, I’ve also included the link for the text.

Once you’re happy with the size and position of your text, create a PDF or a JPEG from the document which makes printing really easy. Either “export” the document to PDF/JPEG format, or “save as” a PDF/JPEG, depending on the software you’re using.

Either print at home or have the wall art printed at a print shop. The wall art works best if printed on card stock. Frame the printed wall art in a pre-purchased frame, or have it professionally framed.

To make the matching card, create a document that measures 10.5 inches wide by 7.5 inches high. This is a foldable card, which means that the artwork (floral border) and the text will be on the right-hand side of the document. Import (copy and paste) the card template contained in the Dropbox link. This gives you a convenient cutting line once you’ve printed the card.

Copy and paste the floral border into the document. Align the left side of the border to the centre of the document. Add the text of your choice, or use the text contained in the Dropbox link. Once you’re happy with the size and position of your text, create a PDF or a JPEG from the document. Print on card stock and cut with a guillotine or a craft knife along the cutting lines. Fold the card and write your personal message to you mom on the inside.

You now have a wonderful gift for your mom on Mother’s Day.

Use the artwork to create other Mother’s Day gifts; have it printed on a mug or make your own gift wrap.

I’d love to see your finished products!
